Warm Air Digitalphotolinds Pixabay 1

One common problem that homeowners experience is their air conditioner blowing warm air. It can make you sweat both literally and figuratively if it happens on a sweltering day. Here’s a look at the most common causes of this air conditioning problem:

Wrong Thermostat Setting

Believe it or not, you may be getting hot air because your thermostat is set to “heat”. Double check it and ensure it’s set to “cool”. Also, make sure it’s set to “auto” and not “on”. The “on” setting will make the fan blow continuously – even when your A/C isn’t cooling. That will make warmer air blow through your vents.

Outside Unit is Clogged

Your outdoor and indoor A/C units work together to expel heat from your home. If the outside unit is clogged with dirt and debris, it will have trouble removing the heat. As a result, your A/C won’t cool your home properly. You can prevent this problem by keeping the area around your outdoor unit clean and clear.

Outside Unit Has Lost Power

Your A/C system could blow warm air if the outdoor unit loses power but the indoor one doesn’t. The unit could have lost power due to a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse. You’ll need to check the circuit breaker and fuse panel.

Evaporator Coil is Dirty

A dirty evaporator coil may be the reason behind your A/C problem. Its primary cause is a dirty air filter. While you can replace the filter, you’ll need to seek professional help to have the evaporator coil cleaned.

Refrigerant is Low

Refrigerant is responsible for absorbing heat from your home’s air. If it leaks, your A/C will struggle to cool your air. You’ll know you have a refrigerant leak if your indoor and outdoor A/C units have ice forming on them. You’ll need a refrigerant charge to correct the issue.

The best way to prevent your A/C from blowing warm air is by having a maintenance tune up twice a year. If you need help with a warm air issue or another professional A/C service in Eastern North Carolina, contact us at Jackson & Sons.
