Energy Efficiency Istock 901093568 1

As summer approaches, keeping our homes and businesses comfortable is very important. All the energy that HVAC systems use increases the carbon footprint, which contributes to climate change. Which leads us to wonder if our comfort is worth sacrificing the planet? Fortunately, it doesn’t have to come to that.

Up to almost 50 percent of the average home’s energy consumption comes from heating and cooling. HVAC technology is constantly improving to reduce energy output without sacrificing comfort. With improved HVAC energy efficiency, your system can have a more positive impact on climate change.

More Efficient HVAC Systems

A/C efficiency is measured with the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, which tells how much cooling a unit produces for the amount of energy it uses throughout the season. Work with a knowledgeale and experienced HVAC professonal to determine which system is best for your home or business.

Energy usage is only part of the problem. The refrigerant used in most of the older A/C systems is R-22, which also has a negative environmental impact and is detrimental to the Ozone. Fortunately, R-22 has been gradually eliminated from HVAC systems and replaced with different alternatives such as R-410A, which is more environmentally friendly.

Improving Energy Efficiency

So what can you do to improve HVAC energy efficiency? First, consider upgrading to an Energy Star qualified system if your current system is 10 years or older and your electric bills continue to rise without any apparent reason.

Consider an HVAC Zoning System which is also referred to as “zoned HVAC”. By learning your household’s heating and cooling preferences, it can keep you comfortable without the constant need to readjust the thermostat, and without wasting energy sending the same temperatured air to unused rooms. This also helps regulate the tempertaure in a room that up to now has never been cooled or heated as well as others in the home or business.
