Kenny C. did everything to determine the cause of why the breaker in the main panel for the furnace was going off after a short time the HVAC system was running. It was clear that the HVAC system was running correctly and he took pictures that proved it. The breaker for the compressor was not tripping and feeds to the breaker at the main panel, so it is obvious that the breaker at the main panel needs to be replaced. Although I wish he could have replaced the breaker, I understand why and will call a licensed electrician to replace the breaker. I am thankful that I have the pictures to prove the situation with the electrician.

An Excellent Learning Experience

I learned from Luis how my new HVAC system was supposed to work at such a detail level that it was clear Luis knew what and how to fix it. In the process of checking the non working system, he pointed out the damaged part in the compressor. He was able to provide a detailed diagnosis so that I was prepared to take it to that next step - actually getting the proper component (the compressor) replaced. Since I could not get a response from the original installer (and questioned their competence anyway), it was obvious that Ruis and his colleagues knew what they were doing and would get the job done.

Tech found zone board receiving call for emergency heat but not sending aux heat signal to equipment side. Tech verified wiring and zone board setup. Tech ran zone board emergency heat test and found Emergency heat kicked in. Tech quoted replacing zone board. Tech also found system low on refrigerant and recommend leak search. Customer requested recharge. Tech found bypass damper has just an open and close damper motor and quoted replacing it with an adjustable damper. Customer does not want to move forward with other repairs at this time. Tech also recommended ESA plan. Tech added refrigerant and system is running heat pump heat only. Supply temp increased from 73 to 80 with 58 return and 29 degree outdoor temperature. System will not be efficient without zone board replacement.

2008 split heat pump system upstairs. Tech found the condenser fan motor operating, however, the inner bearings are showing signs of failure/seize up, during every start up, the motor does make a dry humming noise. Tech noticed the refrigerant lines after the outdoor txv freezing up, R22 refrigerant charge was checked and found it to be reading low on charge. Tech used a high sensitivity leak detector and only found a tiny leak in the back of the evaporator coil, not enough to leak over time. Due to high potential repair cost, filed supervisor was notified and will provide a solution.

Tech serviced and cleaned units. Upon arrival techs nitrogen went out. Tech flushed drain lines with water. Tech found upstairs evaporator coil showing signs of rust. Tech could not find a consistent leak. Downstairs unit is heating and cooling efficiently. Before departure tech heard upstairs condenser making a loud humming sound and observed fan not spinning.

Tech serviced and cleaned unit. Upon arrival tech did not have a 1x 20x25x1 filter. Customer will need it dropped off. Tech found inducer draft capacitor reading at 1.69/2. Tech also found evaporator coil to be severely rusted. Tech could not find a consistent leak. Unit is heating and cooling efficiently. Tech informed customer about ESA renewal. Customer renewed.

Tech found 2 pole 40 amp heat strip contactor internally shorted. Tech does not have one on the truck at this time. Unplugged contactor to get heat pump running without heat strips. Tested heat pump heating and defrost without issue. Picked up contactor from truck 38. Tested new heat strip contactor without issue. System is back operating properly. Collected for repair. Tech returned and dropped off 16x30x1 filter.

Tech found no Red 24 volt signal to outdoor unit. System was running in heat without powering defrost board which caused condenser to freeze a few days ago. Recorded amp draws and refrigerant pressures. Tech found float switch circuit breaking Red to outdoor unit instead of red to thermostat. Swapped tatat wires to kill tstat power on float switch trip. Condensate pump was full of water from dehumidifier, but not running. Tech bumped pump and it turned on and pumped out water. Removed condensate pump from crawlspace and thoroughly washed it. After reconnecting, tech was still not getting 24 volts to thermostat through float switch circuit. Condensate pump switch is closed. Found air handler float switch gummed up with dirt and not passing voltage. Tried to reset it, but could not. Replaced float switch. Tested heat mode, defrost, and cooling without issues after cleaning condensate pump, correcting float switch wiring and replacing air handler float switch. Put notes and pics on servic

Tech found system calling for aux heat but only running heat pump heat. Tech found no 24v at w. Thermostat sends power to w then goes through outdoor thermostat before going to heat strip relay. Outdoor thermostat is set to 45 and it’s 30 outside. Tech increased outdoor thermostat temp all the way up before the thermostat closed indicating a failed outdoor thermostat. Tech explained the outdoor thermostat is an accessory and is not necessary, but can be replaced. Tech also found the only one heat strip running due to a failed fuse link. Customer wanted to bypass the thermostat to have 1 heat strip working and get quotes emailed for other repairs.

Tech found coil does have dirty sock smell but noticed the smell seemed more like a dead animal smell. Mobile home ducts are built into the home and are non replaceable. Tech would recommend calling to see if they can be cleaned. Tech also sent estimate to remove coil, coil pan and blower to clean but recommends replacing coil to fix dirty sock. Tech replaced filter. Homeowner told tech to tell tenant to reach out to eagles properties.

Upon arrival found bacterial buildup debris blowing out of bedroom vent. Inspected duct system for this room and found no challenges. Vacuumed up debris in room and inside of vent. Found iWave to be failed and not operating on this system. Replaced with Plasma air purifier. System is operating properly.

Found both heat strip sequencers faulty intermittently and in need of replacement. Was able to reset power and allow system to heat fully for time being, but performance is not guaranteed. Spoke with Mr. Hill he will need to get approval before repairs are made. System is extremely old and in poor condition. Costly repairs may not be best option. Built estimate.
