Different manufacturers have different policies regarding when warranty registration must be activated and what’s covered.

Why Is HVAC Registration Necessary?

• The manufacturer’s warranty requires it. To receive benefits specified in the warranty, your unit must be registered with the manufacturer within a specific time. Often the period is within 60 days of installation or some other similar time limit specified by the manufacturer. It’s best to register ASAP. If the time limit elapses without registration, you will likely not be eligible for the manufacturer’s warranty benefits.
• Virtually all manufacturer warranties cover most major repairs and parts replacements for at least five years. Many major brand names offer substantially longer coverage. Certain costly components, such as the air-conditioner compressor or the furnace heat exchanger, may get separate, extended coverage.
• Most manufacturers’ warranties impose other terms in addition to registering the new unit within the specified time limit. For example, the owner of the unit is commonly required to show proof of annual preventative maintenance by a certified HVAC contractor in order to meet the warranty terms and keep the policy in force.

How to Register

Warranty registration is made easy for the new owner. In many cases, the HVAC contractor who sells and installs the unit may perform the registration step for you as a courtesy. If not, the buyer can easily register the new HVAC system at the manufacturer’s website.
