Schaumburg Reduced Airflow

Reduced airflow is a common problem in many homes.  You rely on your HVAC system to keep floor ventsyou warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather. It plays a vital role in keeping you comfortable but also by keeping the air in your home healthy. There are several signs that you could be experiencing an airflow problem in your home. Below we list the most common.

Do you feel that some areas of your home seem to warm up or cool down faster than other areas? Uneven heating or cooling in different areas of your home could signal a blocked vent or duct. Sometimes it’s as simple as moving a piece of furniture off of the floor register. Other times it may signal a collapsed or broken duct pipe.

If you experience reduced airflow or no airflow through your registers, this could mean that an area of your underground ducts has indeed collapsed. An underground air duct camera inspection is a good idea if you’re experiencing this problem and cannot find a remedy to correct it. Another possible cause is duct leakage. Air can escape from holes and cracks in your pipes, reducing the airflow throughout your home.

Noticing an increase in dust and other debris floating throughout your home? It could mean your furnace filter is dirty and needs replacing. You can purchase a new filter at any home improvement store and replacing it is easy. It is important to remember to buy a filter according to your manufacturers’ suggested guidelines and MERV rating, which is the rating assigned to a filter depending on how well the filter traps particles. The higher the rating, the smaller the particles captured. Just know that using a filter with a MERV rating that is too high for your furnace can cause inefficiencies that actually reduces airflow throughout your home.
