Fiberglass Fibers
Many above ground air ducts are manufactured with a fiberglass insulation liner installed on the inside of the duct for insulation and sound reduction. The problem with this is that over time the fiberglass liner breaks down and fiberglass fibers get released into the air. This break down also causes dirt, dust and other debris to get caught in the insulation, making the liner impossible to thoroughly clean. As a result, as air flows through the ducts, the fiberglass fibers are released into the air you breathe.
